Homemade Taco Seasoning


Clean eating taco seasoning! This homemade taco seasoning is not just yummy, it offers all the benefits of no artificial ingredients, additives or preservatives!  Salt free too!  Use it to season ground beef, or if you really want to go lean, this homemade taco seasoning is also amazing for ground chicken or turkey.  The cayenne gives it a little bit of a zip – I would classify it as ‘medium’ in terms of hotness. If you prefer your taco seasoning to be ‘mild’, cut down the cayenne.  Make Mexican rice by using it to season cooked rice (brown rice, of course, to keep it clean eating).  Make up a larger batch to keep on hand in the pantry. Wrap your tacos in crunchy lettuce leaves to keep it clean and low carb!  See below for an additional cleaning eating homemade taco seasoning recipe – try them both!


∙ Serves 2
1/2 tsp Garlic powder
1/2 tsp Onion powder
1/4 tsp Black pepper, ground
1/2 tsp Cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp Chili powder
1 tsp Paprika
2 tbsp Cumin, ground
Combine all ingredients and blend well.
To use:  brown and crumble ground beef, chicken or turkey.  Once all meat is browned, add a small amount of water to the meat (1/4 c water to 1 lb of meat) then add the seasoning mix (to taste), and stir well. Continue cooking a couple of minutes of medium heat to allow flavor to penetrate the meat.
Notes: For 1 1lb of meat, I use almost all of the seasoning, leaving a small amount to add to rice.   However, this is a guideline – use it to your own taste, depending on how strong you like your flavoring to be.
