Just like Mr.GreenJeans used to make! An original recipe I created years ago - back in the day when we still had a GreenJean's restaurant in my local area (gone since the early 1990s). [Sigh...] Those were the days... yes, they were good times...
- 4 slices French bread
- 1 lb. extra lean ground beef
- 1 tbsp. dried basil
- 1/2 tbsp. dried oregano
- 1 medium onion, sliced into thin rings
- 4 mushrooms, sliced
- 1 c. pizza sauce
- 4 large slices Mozzarella cheese
In a bowl, mix together ground beef, basil, and oregano.
Divide beef mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties.
Grill patties to desired doneness; cook onions and mushrooms on grill along with burgers until tender.
Lightly toast French bread.
Place a beef patty atop of each slice of toasted French bread.
Top each patty with 1/4 of the onions and then mushrooms.
Spoon pizza sauce over each , totally covering the patty and the french bread.
Top each with 1 slice of Mozzarella cheese.
Place under broiler for 5 minutes or until cheese is completely melted.
Serve with Buffalo Chips.
Pizza Burgers are served open-face style on a hunk of French Bread - no bun on top! Trust me, you won't miss it - these are YUM!
